The year 2142 AD. A dystopian corporate-dominated future teeters as the last Bitcoin (BTC) is mined, and the long-dormant Satoshi Nakamoto wallet is awakened and used to dismantle its control. All physical, virtual, and astral realms are disrupted as entheogen spirits, angels, and demons battle while Artificial Intelligence (AI) battles AI to liberate sentient entities in the Metaverse.

This is the scene set for the Non-Fungible Comic Book Project (NFT) led by an ambitious team of ex-game developers from Serbia. The Web3 platform combines the popular comic book collection with the world of NFTs to demonstrate the tradition of a pre-production virtual tabletop RPG board game.

Dušan Žica, CEO and COO of 2142, jumps straight to the project’s premise in an exclusive interview with Cointelegraph. Having worked as a copywriter and ad manager for 11 years, Žica turned to the world of video game development 7 years before the birth of Idea 2142 in late 2021.

Frustrated by the plethora of imitations in the NFT space, his team envisioned a GameFi comic book in which users mint, collect, and assemble panels and pages from the 2142 CE comic book series, beginning with the first volume, before participating in a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) to guide the story’s progression. and its end.

Cointelegraph explored website 3 to begin the process of minting and assembling the first edition of the 2142 comic book. Paying the gas fee gives users a small set of free random NFTs, providing the first parts of the comic book puzzle.

As Žica explains, users will need to purchase a total of 15 to 20 packs to complete the first 34-page comic issue. These bundles may provide the user with 2 of the same boards or pages, but ERC-20 NFTs can be bought and sold on the 2142 NFT Marketplace as well as platforms like OpenSea, allowing collectors to complete their comics.

The AD 2142 first edition will also have random cover pages, adding to the unique compilation capability of the comic books, which are minted into one complete NFT upon completion:

“We have different covers, which are based on random models, different characters and combinations. When you copy the whole set of boards, you get one NFT issue. The issue must have an inherent value because of that rarity.”
Seasoned collectors of comics used to pay anything from tens to hundreds of dollars for the latest copy or rare edition of their favorite comics. One pack of 21 NFTs will cost around $30 and users will need to have at least 15 packs to receive an airdrop of a character, location, and item from the 2142 universe that can then be used to craft new five-page webcomics based on user choices.

“This way, we’re actually decentralizing and randomizing world building, it’s a new concept, and we’re not aware of anyone doing it,” said Jica.

These characters, locations, and items primarily form part of the pre-production phase of the team’s long-term goal of creating a collectible card and tabletop RPG video game in the mold of Cyberpunk 2020, Kult, and The World of Darkness. Žica said that the true value of NFT’s intellectual property will be realized and implemented in a video game.

“We are in pre-production for a CCG video game, because we all come from video game production backgrounds. It will be a huge part of pre-production, and it can help us grow our community and further build our world.”
The 2142 team also wanted to avoid attracting NFT “fins” that had become an integral part of the space, and to snap up new digital collectibles in the hopes of making big profits.

Žica has acknowledged that Ethereum-based NFTs will be available on platforms like OpenSea – in a similar way that reddit collectible NFT images have been listed and sold for a premium on the popular market.

According to the project overview, 2142 DAO members will be entitled to a revenue share in the development of RPG, video CCG and animation series.
